Here's how to keep your septic system happy...
1. Don't flush paper towels, facial tissues or baby wipes because they take a long time to decompose. Use toilet tissue that breaks down fast in the water... test by putting 2-3 sheet in a jar of water, shake for 10 seconds. If it disperses into little pieces, Great! If it's still intact, change brands. Other material not readily decomposed are sanitary napkins, prophylactics, coffee grounds, cooking fats & grease, bones, wet-strength towels, disposable diapers and cigarette butts.
2. Do a load of laundry a day rather than a weeks worth in one day. Excessive use of water flushes the bacteria needed for decomposing into the leach field.
